Happy 27th Birthday Kids Market!

This weekend the Kids Market on Granville Island celebrated their 27th Birthday. I was invited to celebrate and face paint and I had a great time! Balloons, cake and face painting, what more could you ask for at a birthday party? Tons of smiling faces? Well, we got that too... check it out!

On the first day of Halloween...

Halloween scene by Nicholas

On the first day of Halloween, I  dressed up as the bride of Frankenstein! Each year, my cousin's throw an amazing Halloween bash at their home in Victoria. With a ghoulish spread of Halloween themed food (I ate all the plasma dip, because it was really brie cheese!) and the outrageous decorations (I love the broom outside that moved on it's own, mingling through the crowd) there is no better party around. This year it took place the weekend before Halloween weekend, and was the perfect way to kick off the costume craziness.

I was very lucky this Halloween season to be invited back to work at Just Imagine, one of my first jobs when I moved to Vancouver. It was there that I learned the art of costuming, and I love going back to see the amazing staff and check out their awesome stock. Let's just say, I added some pretty fantastic costumes to my tickle trunk this time around, and am now the proud owner of a Supergirl costume (pictures to come!!). Thanks JI!

While working at Just Imagine I tended to favor the 'Halloween Mini Mouse' look

The next few days of Halloween were filled with adorable and hilarious kids, who were overjoyed to be my guinea pigs for some spooky face paint designs. I ended off the week of nannying for Claire and Hugo by painting Claire, Hugo, and their mom Emily's faces for the Halloween haunt at Claire's school. They are such a great family, and I always feel so blessed to be a part of their family festivities.

I spent the Friday of Halloween face painting with Cecily and Nicholas, and the results were amazing! Nicholas painted a Halloween scene using the beautiful Cecily as a model. Then it was off to Cecily's house for an impromptu Halloween photo shoot. Most excellent Halloween times!

Saturday and Sunday I had a gig balloon twisting at the Osaka Supermarket in Park Royal. It was such a treat to hand out the balloons to the kids, and add a little more wonder to their Halloween. So many balloons, and so many smiles!

While I was as Park Royal, Cecily and Nicholas manned the fort at the Kids Market on Granville Island for their annual Halloweenie! Thanks for your hard work guys!

I also got to wear my I Love Lucy Pinup costume on the Saturday night, and it turned out better than I had hoped. Not everyone knew who I was (some people need to brush up on the classics!) but I felt satisfied that I had pulled off Lucille Ball in a very Brenna way, just as I had hoped.

Lucy!

On the last day of Halloween, October 31st, I had a little shindig of my own and invited over some off my good friends to take pictures, listen to records and gorge ourselves on candy. The night ended in a costume competition, with Cecily's costume, Schrodinger's Cat, being the winner!

This Halloween was absolutely fun and costume-change filled. The costumes were relentless and it was so great to see everyone get into the spirit, but what else is Halloween for than to dress up and commune with ghosts! Until next time,

I also took time to check out Just Imagine and visit Camilla and Laura, who surprised me all dressed up! Halloween is here soon, and the store is getting ready, I can't wait to see all the stuff as it arrives. I'll be checking in regularly to scope it out, I assure you.

Zombie Walk and Orphan Kitty Benefit!

Zombiiiiiiiies!
Once a year, Zombies come to town and brains are on the menu.

Vancouver is known as Hollywood North, and when it comes to costuming, makeup artistry and characters we are unlike anywhere! The annual zombie walk is an amazing opportunity to see these film industry talents showcased, and to have a lot of fun!

For those of you who are unsure of what a zombie walk entails, here is a quick description. After meeting at the Vancouver Art Gallery downtown all the zombies proceed to limp, lumber and lurch down Robson St. and up Denman St., stopping traffic and striking fear into the hearts of tourists. There were so many different types of zombies (girl scouts, superheros, even zombie Michael Jackson)! It was hilarious.

This year I was lucky enough to be invited to Cecily's "Let's Die Together" party before the walk. While I had some understanding of gory makeup (I went as a beheaded Marie-Antoinette for Halloween a few years ago) it was great to get some pointers from Cecily, a zombie veteran.  I think the results were pretty gross and awesome, and I already can't wait for next year!

I so scary!

I dressed as a Yoga Zombie, "STRETTTTTTTTCH!.

Sunday, Hayley and I volunteered at the Vancouver Orphaned Kitten Rescue summer fundraiser. It was a beautiful day, and a great event. A band, a bouncy castle and kitties, what more could you want? This was my first time working with Hayley and she did great! I am excited to have her on as one of the Party Kids.

BC day and Kids Market Fun, and Family Overload!

Beebop and Rainbow
I know I may be a whole week late, but it's still worth blogging about BC day cause I got some great photos! As usual, we were invited to face paint and balloon twist at the Kids Market on Granville Island and it was a total blast. It wasn't nearly as busy as Canada day, so we were able to spend more time with each customer and even take lunch breaks. We got to spend some time with Rainbow the Dragon too, which is always a treat. He is a big fan of the Party Kids, and we are a big fan of his! Out balloon hats are getting more elaborate, and our designs more beautiful, and it's so much fun to spend time all together!

I also had a great time face painting at the Kids Market this week. I feel like something has switched and now I all of a sudden feel way more on my game. Practice makes perfect I guess!

This week has also been great because my family is in town! And by family I mean my Grandma and Aunty from England, Great Aunt, Aunt and Uncle and cousin from Scotland, my family from the island just to name a few. Yay family overload! They were all here to celebrate the marriage of my cousin Dylan to his beautiful bride Markianna. The ceremony was held overlooking the beach in West Vancouver, and we were treated to fireworks in English Bay specially ordered by them (teehee). I laughed, I cried, and danced like a crazy person (as I am apt to do). It was such a joy. Congratulations Dylan and Markie!
